It’s International Women’s Day this Friday 8th March and to show our support, we are featuring some fantastic women across the Sugarman Group business every day this week.

Our colleagues are sharing their experiences of work, their inspirations and talking about their career journey.

Today we feature Tahlia Bromfield, Recruitment Consultant at Sugarman Australia.

hat is your current role & what does it entail?

Recruitment Consultant across the area of Aged Care and Disability Support Workers.

Where did your career begin?

I started in the industry as a compliance trainee and quickly progressed into the Academy to land on my desk as a consultant in October 2018.

How have you found being a woman, working in your sector?

There are just as many men as women that work within the Recruitment and Welfare sector. Personally I have found both the industry, as well as Sugarman, to be very supportive and encouraging of women within the workforce. It’s refreshing to see that the majority of Divisional Managers within Sugarman Australia are women and I look forward to them becoming Directors in the near future.

What are the current challenges for women in your sector?

I don’t really believe there are any specific challenges as of yet in this stage of my career.

Is enough being done in the UK/Australia to promote women in the workplace?

In some sectors it has been addressed and managed well, although there is still a long way to go but the corrects steps are being taken to promote women in the workplace.

What advice would you give someone looking to start working in your sector?

Have confidence and never self doubt. This isn’t a easy industry but hard work will definitely show – be prepared to put in the effort.  Never take anything personally and have fun along the way.

Which women in the media inspire you?

Turia Pitt – Australian burn victim and Ellen Degeneres! Both courageous very influential individuals.

Who has inspired you growing up/throughout your life?

My Parents and Managers/Director  (previous and current) – I have always been in a supportive environment with individuals who will always go above and beyond.
