Job Title: SEN Youth Mentor
Location: Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole
Contract: Flexible Daytime Hours (Part-Time / Full-Time Opportunities Available)
Pay: £20 – £25 per hour (PAYE)
About The Role
Sugarman Children’s Services are seeking passionate, patient, and dedicated SEN Youth Mentors to support children and young people across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
This rewarding role involves working on a 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 basis with young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to a range of additional needs and circumstances. As a Youth Mentor, you will focus on building confidence, engagement, emotional wellbeing, and independence while supporting students to achieve positive educational outcomes.
We support children and young people from EYFS through to Post-16, meaning opportunities are available across a range of age groups and abilities.
Our students present with a wide range of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, EBSA, Learning difficulties and developmental delays, Behavioural challenges, Medical needs, EHCP-supported learners, Children Looked After (CLA) and those in alternative provision.
Sessions may take place in family homes, schools, community settings, residential homes, or other suitable educational environments.

Responsibilities
- Provide emotional support around family issues, peer pressure, mental health, and academic challenges
- Help students develop key life skills such as problem-solving, communication, and goal setting
- Build confidence and self-esteem by recognising strengths and achievements
- Act as a positive role model and mentor
- Support reintegration into education by addressing behavioural and emotional needs
- Offer guidance for older students on future pathways, including further education and employment
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with young people, particularly those with SEN, SEMH, or challenging behaviour
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Understanding of mentoring and supporting young people with complex needs
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Right to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Has Business Insurance or is happy to obtain it
