Job Title: SEN Youth Mentor (2 Positions Available)

Location: BH6, Bournemouth

Pay: £20-25 per hour

Hours: Part-time, 9:00am-11:30am, Monday to Friday (2 hours and 30 mins daily, 12.5 hours a week, with option for more)

Contract: Flexible daytime hours

About the Role:

We are recruiting two compassionate, experienced SEN Youth Mentors to provide 2:1 support for a 12‑year‑old student with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the BH6 area. This young person is largely non‑verbal and benefits from highly structured, visual and multi‑sensory approaches, predictable routines, and frequent short engagement opportunities.

You will work collaboratively as part of a two‑mentor team to deliver safe, consistent, nurturing sessions that prioritise communication development, engagement, sensory regulation, and community safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured 2:1 mentoring sessions using visual and sensory-based approaches
  • Support communication using AAC/PECS-style systems, symbols, and gesture-based communication
  • Facilitate short, engaging interaction opportunities (e.g., turn‑taking games, sensory activities)
  • Implement consistent routines to reduce anxiety and support transitions
  • Promote safety awareness at home and in the community through constant supervision
  • Encourage development of self‑care skills, including toileting and dressing with minimal prompts
  • Provide emotional reassurance and support during separation-related anxiety
  • Work collaboratively with another Mentor to ensure a safe, regulated, engaging learning environment
  • Maintain accurate daily notes and follow safeguarding procedures

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting young people with Autism, complex needs or non‑verbal profiles
  • Confident using visual aids, sensory strategies, and structured routines
  • Calm, patient, resilient, and able to work collaboratively in a 2:1 model
  • Strong communication and observation skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Full UK driving licence is required with Business Insurance
