Job Title: Full-time – Support Worker

Location: York, YO24

Rate of Pay: £15.00 per hour

Shifts: 12-hour shifts (08:00-20:00 Days / 20:00-08:00 Waking Nights)

Contract Type: Full-time; 36 hours

About the Role

As a Support Worker, you will assist with everyday tasks, offer emotional encouragement, and promote social inclusion, empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives at home and in the community.

We are currently building a dedicated team to support a dynamic young adult in York who lives with complex needs, including Autism (PDA profile), ADHD, a Learning Disability, and Tuberous Sclerosis. To guarantee a secure and highly supportive environment, we maintain a 3:1 staffing ratio.

Our service user is energetic and exceptionally creative. He loves arts and crafts-specifically designing and building structures out of cardboard boxes. His other passions include aviation, listening to music, gardening, and spending time in local parks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creative & Recreational Activities: Engaging in creative projects (arts, crafts, and cardboard construction) and facilitating community outings, such as park visits and plane watching.

  • Daily Living Support: Assisting with daily tasks, including meal preparation, housekeeping, and personal care.

  • Promoting Independence: Encouraging life skills development and supporting individuals to work towards personal goals.

  • Emotional Wellbeing: Providing positive encouragement, building strong relationships, and maintaining high engagement during 12-hour shifts.

  • Medication & Safety: Assisting with medication management (when trained) while ensuring a safe, respectful, and person-centred environment.

  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate records and promptly reporting any concerns to the care team.

Key Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 6 months of hands-on professional care experience.

  • Activity Level: Must be fit and active enough to participate in daily hobbies and outdoor walks.

  • Driver Status: Full driving licence preferred, but not essential.

  • Right to Work: Valid Right to Work in the UK.

  • Background Check: Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
